Ideas for our 2020 Graduates from Grades 8, 12, College or University. This is a special time and a transitional time in our kids lives. What thoughts to be able to celebrate these brave resilient kids who will go without Grad trips, proms or ceremonies. A virtual all purpose on line celebration maybe? Thank you so much for this portal of Together At Home.

Hi Linda,
Thanks for the inquiry! We agree that it is unfortunate that graduates won’t be able to celebrate the way they had envisioned. The good news is there are still lots of ways to celebrate! While we hope the schools will all do something special (like a virtual graduation ceremony) There are also some of these happening online. For example YouTube is hosting a virtual graduation on June 6th. The ceremony will feature speeches from Barack and Michelle Obama. Then afterwards various musical artists will be performing for a virtual grad night after party. You can find more info here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rxpTjcouaeQ
The Province has announced that they are encouraging schools to celebrate when it’s safe to do so, even if it means delaying celebrations, which is good news, but other ideas of things you can do yourself at home to celebrate the milestone includes; getting dressed up for the big day and have an at home photo shoot, hosting a drive by car parade congratulating the graduate, and/or making a congratulatory video montage highlighting some of the great moments of the graduates life with their family and friends! We recommend using the song Graduation (friends forever) by Vitamin C! It is a classic that will be sure to bring out all the emotions!
We did a quick Google search and found there are lots of other great suggestions online as well! Our biggest tip of all is to ask the graduate how they would like to celebrate, and then see what you can do to bring those ideas to life, but don’t forget to include a few surprises in the mix!
Good luck!

I would like to see a half hour exercise program for those seniors that are stuck at home watching the same Covid thing over and over. Most do not have access to computers. I thought Rogers 10 would be a great answer. Exercise to encourage them to move and stretch. Most have elastic bands. This group of special people need this for their mental health. Please let me know if, when and where this could be accomplished. I am a psw and I will share it with my colleagues.

Hi Sonja - please see the section on the Together at Home page below the Paper Airplane video "55+ Programs - Seniors Centre without Walls". There are a variety of different programs and they do not depend on the use of computers. Please check out the section and let us know if you have any further questions. Please pass along to all of your colleagues. Thanks for the amazing work that you do in our community.

Are there any exercise videos available? I have worked out with Cathy and Suzanne weekly at East Bayfield - 9:15 am classes for the last several years and enjoy them immensely. Have either of these ladies created videos we can do at home?

Thanks for reaching out to the Rec & Culture staff - we can’t wait to see you back in the Recreation facilities but until that time comes, we are working on getting fitness videos on the Together at Home site for everyone to enjoy. We are aiming to have videos and tips available in the next couple of weeks. Please keep checking back for updates.

Big fan of the Bee Hotel video! How long so you expect it to take for bees to check in to the hotel?

Once the weather warms up and our flowers and plants begin to grow, the bees will start returning to your garden and looking for your hotel. Look to see them later in the spring - Recreation & Culture Team
