The following motion was approved at the Dec. 4 City Council meeting:
That the Outdoor Racquet Sports Strategy be approved in principle to guide the future planning, capital forecasting, and development of outdoor tennis and pickleball facilities within the City of Barrie.
November 28, 2024 update
The report, strategy document, and associated motion will go to Council for consideration on December 4, 2024.

November 8, 2024 Update
At the November 13, 2024 Infrastructure and Community Investment Committee meeting, the following motion was considered:
That the Outdoor Racquet Sports Strategy be approved in principle to guide the future planning, capital forecasting, and development of outdoor tennis and pickleball facilities within the City of Barrie.
The staff report and strategy document can be viewed on Legistar or via the "Documents" section on the right-hand side of this page. The strategy document contains information about pickleball and tennis participation trends, results of the community engagement, supply and utilization, court design, court permit rates and fees, needs assessment, and implementation strategy.
April 10, 2024 Update
The final report on Barrie's outdoor racquet sports strategy will be completed by fall 2024, and then presented to Barrie City Council for consideration.
Background
Barrie residents enjoy a high-quality outdoor lifestyle with many greenspaces and recreational facilities located throughout the community.
In preparation for future growth and in response to a resurgence in tennis participation and a rapidly growing pickleball interest, the Outdoor Racquet Sports Strategy (ORSS) will plan for long-term provision of outdoor tennis and pickleball facilities, and related services.

Survey participants who provide their contact info will be eligible* for one of the following prize packs: - Beginner Pickleball Set (includes 2 beginner pickleball paddles and pickleballs)
- Beginner Tennis Set (includes 1 beginner tennis racquet and tennis balls)
- Franklin X-40 Pickleball Balls (12 Pack)
- Pro Penn Marathon Extra Duty Tennis Balls (Two 4-Can Bundles)
Feedback is being collected until November 10, 2023. *Must be a City of Barrie resident. One (1) entry per survey participant for one (1) prize pack. Winners will be contacted to coordinate prize pick-up/drop-off. Note that City Staff are not eligible to be entered.

Join us at an Information Pop-up! Join the project team at one of the many places in Barrie that currently has Tennis and/or Pickleball facilities to learn more about the project, ask questions, and provide feedback. Kids aged 12 and under can take part in the colouring activity (details below).

-- The Workshop has been completed -- Are you part of an organized tennis or pickleball group in Barrie? Join the Outdoor Racquet Sports User Groups Workshop on Thursday October 26, 2023 for a facilitated discussion to share your feedback regarding outdoor tennis and pickleball facilities. Feedback gathered at this session will inform the Outdoor Racquet Sports Strategy. This workshop is for tennis and pickleball groups that: are organized* or incorporated have been active for at least one (1) year within the past five (5) years (since 2018) offer membership/participation to residents of Barrie (membership must compromise of a minimum 80% Barrie residents) currently utilize or would like to utilize City of Barrie outdoor facilities
*To be recognized as "organized", the group must have a documented mission/mandate statement, a governance structure in place in the form of a volunteer Board of Directors/Executive Committee, written constitution, by-laws and/or operating procedures, and financial records in accordance with the Canadian Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
