The City of Barrie is undertaking a Master Plan Process for Heritage Park, a 7.3 acre waterfront park located at 5 Simcoe Street on Barrie’s north shore. Heritage Park is one of Barrie’s premier waterfront destinations and hosts many significant events and features horticultural displays, a water feature area, natural pond and the Sea Serpent sculpture.

This will be the first Master Plan since the park’s original development in the early 1990s, and represents an opportunity to explore creative ways to update, revitalize and add innovation to this semi-urban destination to meet the needs of today's and tomorrow’s park users. As a waterfront park, the City wishes to create a highly-valued public space while maintaining and elevating the natural environment.

Over the past year, a consulting team has undertaken a master planning process, including internal and external stakeholder consultation. The feedback responding to key issues, constraints, and opportunities received from the stakeholders and the first Public Information Centre (PIC) held on May 27, 2021 (you can view the PDF version of the presentation or watch the video recording of the May 27 meeting), have led to a final master plan concept. Following a presentation to the City's Community Building Committee on October 26, the design team has incorporated the comments received into the proposed final master plan.

Second Public Meeting: November 25, 2021
At the next Public Information Centre meetings, being held on November 25, the final concept will be presented. The presentation will outline the proposed level of rehabilitation for the park and new amenities, and the public will be invited to ask questions and comment on the concept plan.

Date: Thursday, November 25, 2021
Time: 2–4 p.m. OR 6–8 p.m.
Location: Virtual via Zoom (due to COVID-19 restrictions)
