Heritage Park Master Plan consultation
The Heritage Park Master Plan public consultation has concluded. Thank you for your feedback.
Public feedback from this engagement process will be incorporated into a Final Master Plan, which will be presented at a second Public Information Centre in fall 2021.
The City of Barrie is undertaking a Master Plan Process for Heritage Park, a 7.3 acre waterfront park located at 5 Simcoe Street on Barrie’s north shore. Heritage Park is one of Barrie’s premier waterfront destinations and hosts many significant events and features horticultural displays, a water feature area, natural pond and the Sea Serpent sculpture.
This will be the first Master Plan since the park’s original development in the early 1990s, and represents an opportunity to explore creative ways to update, revitalize and add innovation to this semi-urban destination to meet the needs of today's and tomorrow’s park users. As a waterfront park, the City wishes to create a highly-valued public space while maintaining and elevating the natural environment.
Over the past several months, a consulting team has carried out multiple stakeholder meetings that have led the Design Team to identify key issues, constraints and opportunities that require exploration with the public during this process.
Three concepts have been developed to explore varying levels of enhancements to the park. The City is asking Barrie residents, businesses, organizations and visitors for their feedback on three concepts through two Public Information Centre meetings. The public consultation will invite conversations about inviting and safe places, the use of universal design to invite users of all ages and abilities, and ways to increase diversity and inclusion.
The public was invited to attend virtual public presentations on Thursday, May 27 (2 to 4 p.m. OR 6 to 8 p.m.) to view the three concept designs and provide feedback on the concept elements via an online survey.
If you were unable to attend the virtual public sessions, you can view the PDF version of the presentation or watch the video recording(External link).
Residents can also provide their feedback by email(External link) or by mail (to Wendy Loevenmark, Parks Planning - Development Services, City of Barrie Operations Centre, 165 Ferndale Dr. N., P.O. Box 400, Barrie, ON, L4M 4T5).
Please share your feedback by completing the survey or submitting comments by Sunday, June 13, 2021.
