Eastview Community Park Playground Revitalization
Consultation on this project has concluded.
The City of Barrie is pleased to announce the final preferred design concept for the future playground improvements at Eastview Park. For PDF versions of the plan, please also see the Project Documents Section in the right column.
NOTE:
Additional site improvements have been added to the design concept above. Planned improvements now include a new accessible playground, shade structure, pathway connections, tennis court surface restoration, pickleball court lighting, as well as a basketball half court. Due to the scope of the improvements, the existing community garden will be closed and permanently relocated to accommodate construction activities.
Eastview Community Park is 4.1 hectares located in Barrie’s north-east end. The property is home to the Eastview Arena Ice Rink and contains many amenities including two soccer fields, a playground, community gardens, pedestrian pathways, and morality lighting. There are two parking areas that accommodate the arena and the park. There are four existing tennis courts with illuminated courts with acrylic surfacing on an asphalt base. In 2022, works were completed to include a pickleball facility that provides three play courts.
The City of Barrie is making playground improvements at Eastview Community Park.
Eastview Community Park playground improvements are part of the City's Annual Playground Revitalization Program, which aims to redevelop existing ‘traditional’ play spaces to meet the needs and interests of the surrounding communities, and offer new, vibrant and engaging experiences for all visitors.
The goals of the Playground Revitalization are:
- Improve on an attractive destination for community members to spend more time outdoors;
- To better support a multitude of open space programming and use;
- Connect visitors with nature and their community;
- Promote community events and initiatives; and,
- Encourage social, physical and mental engagement of persons of all ages and abilities.
