Like all Ontario municipalities, Barrie must meet and maintain legislated requirements set in the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) including implementing and continually updating a multi-year Accessibility Plan.

The community shared their experiences through the Accessibility Survey and the Opportunity Map to help us learn what you believe is needed to make Barrie more accessible. Your feedback is being used to help set priorities and goals for the City's 2019–2024 Accessibility Plan.
A draft plan was approved by General Committee on Monday, December 10, 2018. It is on the agenda for final approval by City Council on Monday, December 17, 2018.

June 2018 Public feedback is being collected through the Accessibility Survey and Accessibility Opportunity Map.

Accessibility Plan Review has finished this stage
July 2018 Feedback collected will be reviewed. A summary of the feedback collected will be made available on the City of Barrie website.
Accessibility Plan drafting
Accessibility Plan Review has finished this stage
August - November 2018 Draft 2019-2024 Multi-year Accessibility Plan and the Multi-year Accessibility Plan for Transit, with public feedback integrated throughout will be developed. Draft Plan will be presented to the City's Accessibility Advisory Committee on September 27, 2018.
Recommendation to General Committee
Accessibility Plan Review has finished this stage
December 10, 2018 Multi-year Accessibility Plan presented to General Committee in a staff report. This may include a summary of all contributions collected as well as recommendations for future action.
Recommendation to City Council
Accessibility Plan Review has finished this stage
December 17, 2018 If approved by General Committee, Multi-year Accessibility Plan presented to City Council for final approval before implementation.
Implementation
Accessibility Plan Review is currently at this stage
January 1, 2019 If approved by City Council, Multi-Year Accessibility Plan will go into effect on January 1, 2019.
