Background on Barrie's Transit Vision

The City of Barrie is building a blueprint for growing our existing transit system to best meet the needs and goals of today’s city, while developing a long-term plan for a future network.

Building on previous work that laid the foundation for the Transportation Master Plan (specifically for Transit), Transit Vision focuses on creating:


Previous consultation (2021):

In 2021, the City invited residents to share their vision for the future of Barrie's transit network. Phase one of consultation focused on understanding current transit patterns, collecting feedback on network preferences and receiving comments on Barrie Transit’s guiding principles.

Key findings for the 2021 consultation:

  • 90% of respondents consulted said they wanted a new network;
  • Most respondents were satisfied with the current network’s coverage, but most were unsatisfied with the frequency;
  • Aspects of transit that were ranked as most important by respondents were: reliability, quick travel time and frequency.

Phase two consultation ⁠— closed November 25, 2022

Phase two of the consultation focused on presenting, and asking for specific feedback, on the proposed transit network.

During phase two, the project team hosted four in-person open houses, and collected feedback through an online survey, map pinning tool and general 'public transit ideas' tool. View a summary of the phase two consultation results.

Your feedback matters

Feedback collected in phase two of public consultation is currently being used to refine the proposed network to create a successful transit network that meets public needs, improves mobility and guides Barrie’s transit system as the city grows.
