What engagement is being done with other groups, in addition to the public consultation?

In addition to the public engagement opportunities, the City is also consulting with Indigenous and First Nations engagement groups who will be invited directly to provide initial input and to explore further opportunities for engagement through later steps in the development of the Barrie Parks Strategic Plan. The City will also reach out to organized interest groups (in the areas of recreation, sports, education, health, tourism, and the environment) across the City to learn about their experiences using, scheduling, and coordinating parks and outdoor recreational facilities operated by the City of Barrie.

How does the Parks Strategic Plan build on work already done?

The plan will build on the 2010 Parks and Recreation Strategic Master Plan and the 2019 Outdoor Recreation Facility Study. In 2024, the City completed a Parkland Needs Assessment. The process of creating the Parks Strategic Plan will build on the Parkland Needs Assessment.
