This report provides a summary of what we heard during the series of Phase 2 public engagement initiatives that included stakeholder focus groups, the Places Survey, Waterfront City Walk and Envision Barrie: An Interactive Screening. The project team will use this information to inform the direction of the new OP, and to begin drafting the new policies. We thank all of those who participated for their valuable feedback. We look forward to continued engagement with you!
Discussion Papers: identifying and discussing issues facing Barrie
The discussion papers below are centred around seven themes that were prevalent in the feedback we received in Phase 1 of the OP project. These discussion papers incorporate your feedback, research into Barrie's current situation and best practices around the world, to explore different solutions and ideas on how to address issues that affect Barrie.
The policy options and directions presented in these papers will help pin-point our vision to making Barrie a liveable, healthy, accessible and thriving city. They are a starting point for generating discussion about general policy issues in this phase of the Official Plan Project.

The OP is
the city’s overarching master plan that sets a vision of what Barrie
will be in the next 20 years and guides development for that future. It
integrates provincial legislation and policies with public opinion and
all elements of the city (i.e. land-use, infrastructure, transportation,
natural heritage and culture).
As part of this project, Planning
Services will also be updating the Zoning By-law. While the Official
Plan is the City of Barrie's overarching master plan to guide Barrie's
development for the future, the Zoning By-law contains the nuts and
bolts to implement the OP.
The OP Project is anticipated to take
18 months and will go through 6 phases before a new OP is completed.
Please note: the timeline, themes and feedback opportunities could
evolve as the project continues.
