A before and after of how intensification could look along the Essa Road corridor

Essa Road and Bradford Street have been identified as an intensification area, meaning they can help Barrie achieve medium and high-density mixed-use development to meet the directions provided by the Province of Ontario.

Overview of the Essa & Bradford Corridor Study

As part of the Essa Corridor Study, the City is proposing to amend the current zoning of selected properties along Essa Road to permit mixed use development. These locations (see proposed zoning maps) include:

    Your feedback will be considered when developing over-arching goals and priorities for community development and intensification along Essa Road & Bradford Street. 

    Six draft priority statements have been created using feedback received by May 1, 2018, here and at the in-person workshops. How would you prioritize each statement as it relates to Essa Road and Bradford Street?

      The corridor will be a street that is comfortable to walk along in an interesting and engaging urban environment.

      The corridor will be a street that not only connects people with their destinations but with the City’s cultural, built and natural heritage.

    • Diverse + Distinctive
      The corridor will be a street that connects a diverse range of communities with unique features, character and identity. 

    • Efficient + Active
      The corridor will be a street that provides efficient and predictable means of travel for all users. 

    • Livable + Sustainable
      Daily needs of the community will be provided through environmental, social, cultural, and economic touch points throughout the corridor. 

    • Safe + Accessible
      The corridor will be a street that is safe and comfortable for users of all abilities.
